I have just re-joined the club and could do with some help on the alleged huge Barbel caught recently at Kexby? I suppose theres an element of secrecy still attached to this monster, so not expecting miracles. I suspect that there are a few big fish on the length but it looks very hard to sort out? If anyone is local or knows the rivers moods etc I'd be grateful.

You might get a pm, but dont hold your breath for in depth info, the silence could be deafening

Had 2 sessions now without putting a bait in... I found out that the giant Barbel rumour was not quite right, but never say die!

Oh yes... the silence was deafening ok but 3 small un's and 16 sessions later and a nice barbel was hooked, fought and landed at a starter for 10! well 1 oz short of anyway. Today i will celebrate by fishing the Wharfe at Otley and getting no bites! Thats 4 fish from Kex now and i even know some locals! Why does nobody fish there?

Oh and thanks to NS for his patience while preparing for the pictures... they'll be good! And if this venue is home to a new PB for me then it will be a real pleasure frim.

And without help from the secret service good when a plan comes together eh. I know one lad who has put lots of hours in this year on the Derwent and hasn't had a pull yet.

Congratulations on the series of barbel. The Derwent isn't the easiest of waters and Kexby not the easiest of stretches.

Never used to be easy and if you found a swim with ANY size Barbel in you tended to keep it to yourself, as the Barbel seemed to be few and far between. I found what I thought to be a good one where I would get the odd 2ft "tap", and yet I just couldn't hit them. In the end I did finally hit a few by "laying on" instead of legering, and found they were either Chub, or of all things Bream! The latter giving the most Barbel like bites that wern't real ones that I have ever seen. BOF
