hi all was going to have a bash down at easedike shortly and was not sure how best to tackle this venue, i have plenty experience of the wharfe further up stream at linton, collingham, wetherby and boston, i had a walk down there last year on the opposite bank from tadcaster all the way round to boston spa and it looked a tad overgrown but non the less some pretty fishy looking swims

Must be many moons and wars...since i fished Easdike with my dad (wicker basket over shoulder!!)but took a walk today I was totally over-awed at how overgrown it was. We always used to fish the top length miles up on the gravel/sand bank before the sharp right hand bend(and island just aroundthe corner)Waders,Maggot bags and Mitchell Match reesl in hand(come on you remeber)and loved it and my the walk was "usually worth it{gulp}and also the first bid sandank prob 50yds ish up from the beck(previous big pike haunt) but all again was toatally overgrown- sad ..very very sad and as i ventured up found maybe 5 pegs that were easily accessible and fishable/inviting.Im so glad my dad is not capable of seing this mess. But i tell you this stretch is still trully awesome...Sit at a Carp Puddle and catch Carp,Crucian,Carp,Skimmer,Carp ...Etc Etc (with me so far) or sit on a class river(probably the whole stretch to yourself?)and have no idea what's on the end of your line when a fish grabs your bait- Well i know which i'd choose 100/100-

I think Mattsbravo is talking about Thorpe Arch Tradeing Estate sewage works at the start of the Leeds length. How did you reach the top section, by walking up from the parking area at Easd**e?

A659 and follow the track and pylons down to the water. I think the other guy is thinking of somewhere else

Mattsbravo I think you are fishing the wrong bank. If you look downstream the Leeds water is the left hand bank, there is no access to the Leeds Water from the A 659 and the pylons cross the river at Boston Spa (their water) and lower down at Smaws ings, Tadcaster AC water.

Hi all, new member here. Fished the Wharfe@Easedike twice over the weekend looking for Barbel/Chub. First time on this river and it looked so promising......Fished what I thought were likely swims and bait, but no joy whatsoever from tactics that have proved fruitful on the Nidd/Swale/Ouse. Must admit I didnt walk too far downstream as found a few shallow glides near the parking. Had a wander upstream, but this looked very deep water, and not what I was looking for.
Appreciate any guidance from those in the know regarding swims and approach. Do I need to walk further upstream to find shallower water? Or is downstream and better option.
thanks in advance
Pete

Hi pete, ive been fishing easd**e a bit this season. It's been prety hard going, have caught a few barbel but they've Been few and far between. Don't think choice of bait is too important, locating fish is the hard bit! Plenty of nice chub nocking about, I've had them up to 5lb and that's whilst trying to ignore em! There are some great looking swims upstream, about 2/3 fields, Had a beter day today, like anywhere the wharfe fishes better with a couple of foot in, hope this helps

Thanks smiley...
Schoolboy error on my behalf. In my opinion you should be able to fish both banks on any stretch of water that is part of that club.
So when it says left hand bank it is always going downstream as i dont think it states it anywhere in the book.
i fancy freelining for chub there and 5lb as stated is a nice size this time i will fish the correct side thanks again

Mattsbravo it does state in the membership book the left bank and access is via Eased**e (page 63). with the entrance to the fishery at Eased**e Farm
The website also has an excellent map showing the extent of the fishery and which bank
A lot of walking and a steep hill back to the car park, so travel light

Hi Pete, I agree with Karl, Easedike is a tricky place. There are some very big barbel but location is definitely the key. I have put some time in over the last couple of seasons & averaging a barbel a session is pretty good. Try Ulleskelf, there are plenty of small barbel and one or two big boys as well. It's not as picturesque as Easedike but I guess your main priority is catching fish.
