By the way, when I was looking round for info about this venue I saw a thread (minutes of April 2014 delegates' meeting) showing the devastation of 500 yards of bankside vegetation. Noticed on Sunday that all the debris from it is still piled up in the same place as shown in Frim's photos in that thread last April. Did anyone ever get to the bottom of why that had happened?

Funny you should mention it, I brought it up at the delegates meeting last Thursday and it seems no action is to be pursued because it would be counter productive to upset the land owner who allows us access.

Does that mean because they are not landowners allowing access the residents in the flats at topcliffe mill were fair game to be upset by allowing the generator application - just wondered !

Years ago my dad his buddy and me (only a nipper then ) used to go every other week and every time it was a colossal walk( wicker basket !!!) but always up to the big sandbank just before the right hand bend and the island.my dad always waded out, maggot bag and centre pin...to get the huge barbel and chub on the far bank,he lost ten times more than he caught, his mate always pike fished on the bend or just below my dad and had some very good days, always caught a few pike every time. I walked up last year and holy nuts, what a shame......u can hardly get to the big sandbank.....it looks so un fished and overgrown ,we even used to walk back down at end of day to the first big sandbank just above the beck at the start.... His mates fav. Spot for pike.......but even that looks a shambles, yes it's a hard stretch but the fish are there...as I saw on the top....... But what a shame it looks so overgrown ,even bear gryllis would struggle....... The only bonus is u have a whole stretch to yourself....!!!!! Ps anyone fished below the beck???

You are confusing me, which isn't hard. When you say up to the big sandbank and Island, do you mean Down(stream) from the Easedike end? Or, Up(stream) from Thorp Arch? The Island and Sandbank, Upstream of Hay Dike at the Easedike end are pretty easy to access, if you can avoid the Mad Bullocks. Downstream, to the other sandbank and Island it gets harder as you progress, and it's a Bl##dy hard Slog!! From the Thorp Arch end there are areas of hard access and you will maybe have to cut your own peg, it's not a "Muddy Puddle" venue after all, but it's got it's own rewards. The more that fish it, the easier the access...... And if your P.S. is about below the Beck/outlet from the Sewerage Works at Thorp Arch, start of Leeds length, I believe that belongs to Boston Spa A.C. Hope this helps...

I park at the wall after turning left in toddy village, walk down the steep hill to the beck and walk upstream, after a few fields it gets overgrown and just before the right bend there is a sandbank, further on round the corner there is a little island- don't know anything about a thorp arch entrance mate,we always parked by the wall. Never fished below the beck where there is another island, but that bank was clear ,

Theres a peg just after an outflow or something half way up to the bend before the island , if my memory serves me right in some trees , looks absolutely awesome. A stick float heaven . Fished it three times last season ................ never had a bite

The Easedike Easypike pictured above has earned me a new landing net. My Mrs said "I'll get us a bigger net when you catch a fish that's too big for this one."
Sure enough 75cm Fox Pred rubber net arrived an hour ago and I never even knew she'd ordered it.... need to get her a spinning rod now too.
Anyway, we definitely want to explore more down the whole of the Easedike water in the summer. For the next month it's a case of too many venues & too little time, but in the summer I'll be back there - with my machete perhaps.

I was thinking you meant the Island upstream of Hay Dike and the Sandbank on the Left Hand Bend, silly me, they all seem like left hand bends ....

Ignore me cos I can get very boring about history etc but if you like your archaeology - just out of picture to the left of that bit of the satellite image you can see a light-coloured field - and directly under the word "Wharfe" you can distinctly see the outline of a Roman fort. Square shape with a cross of streets inside. An important Roman road forded the river in the shallows exactly at the start of the Leeds water - and until medieval times that ford was part of the quickest 'Great North Road' road (if you wanted to avoid a detour eastwards towards York).
Rudgate brewery is named after the Roman road as it stands on it, further north towards the Nidd - you may know that all their beers have historical names. All nice brews too.

The worst part of the "Trek" is getting back to your car parked at the top of that hill in the laybye at Westerby Farm....
