A few pics to show the work we have done on the next phase of Kippax Park, over the past couple of years our main problem was not having room for pleasure anglers when matches were booked, the new lake and the change of use of the trout fishery will now enable every one to have a days fishing when ever they turn up. We used just two machines a 16ton 360 and a 14 ton vb roller. First bucket start of July A couple of days clearing top soil and finding land drains. The planners were really on our case making sure we worked to the drawings, all bank and water levels were done by laser and rollered as we went to make sure "no leaks" Part of the planning application was to incorporate a Childrens dipping and wildlife pool, this is joined to the new lake by pipe with a fish trap. Sorting a few more pics back in a mo.

The lake is over 200 mt long with a central island and was taking shape after 3 weeks. Shelves and underwater features were put in after rolling. Once the shape, width, and depth were right, I continued rollering for another two weeks. We left another 10 days in the sun then applied 10 ton of lime. looking for next pics.

We set a pump and pipework up from the trout lake which is spring fed and started to fill after 7 weeks. It took over a week pumping 24 hours to get 3ft of depth. And about 3 weeks to get it full. The Wildlife/kids pool will have a 4mtr dipping platform, schools have shown an interest in using the facility Once the lake was full we started to build a lockup storage area. This was then covered in earth held back by 120 ton of large limestone in gabion baskets, the soil will be planted with a wildflower mix to create what the planners describe as a bee and butterfly bank. The rest of the summer was spent planting up both pools with sedge and grasses to kick start things for the coming spring, fish were ordered for the end of Nov, pics coming next.

The first stock fish were small carp averaging about 1lb they arrived Nov 1 The water at this time was 13 deg, OK for carp but too warm for moving silvers. Every one was checked and counted in

After the problems of the past two winters on the trout lake, and realising that not every one likes the style of fishing on offer at places like KP, we have decided to change code on the trout lake and offer the opposite to the proverbial "muddy puddle" our intention is to stock with quality silver fish " but not overstock" we aim to provide what some call proper fishing in a spring fed lake with weed beds, lilly pads, banks of rushes and well spaced out pegs. Tench, skimmers and bream, some larger roach will top up the few resident carp and decent head of crucians already there. We have removed over a ton of weed from every peg by hand but left everything between untouched, the first of the new fish went in a couple of weeks ago when water temps were 8 deg. These skimmers were mint. Some were nearly proper bream. But most were around 12oz . We have just started building platforms on the new lake using all recycled materials and weather permiting should get them finished for march but it will be left until late spring before opening.

Had the first angler prepared to have a go on the old trout lake today, he didnt catch a hundred pound but had a few nice fish and hopefully this is a good sign for the coming season. A bit different to muddy puddle fishing but nice to see good conditioned Rudd, when I left he had had a Bream 3 Roach 1 Ide and lost a proper Tench at the net. Steve

Hi Steve
I gave it a go today on the peg you suggested on the tip but unfortunately i think it needs to warm up a little more .However must say i massively enjoyed it as the swans landing on the lake and the wildlife around made the trip worthwile .
The site looked great and the new lake seems to be going from strength to strength so keep up the good work
