Tickle the EA's belly with the promise of a 'fish pass' and they roll over for anyone.
The developers even tell 'untruths' about what the EA has supposed to have said and done, as I found out this morning. "The EA has tried to engage with your club" - utter rubbish! Its not the EA's job to engage with clubs on matters such as this.
Again, just ask the lads on the Ribble at Settle before the ink is dry.

Hi
Spoke this morning with the engineer from the 'Drainage Board' who informs me he would normally do this clearing work but hasn't in this case, he has promised to visit the site tomorrow to see for himself what has occurred.
Regards Graham

good point about the waterwheel .lets not be ludites too quickly this could be a good thing . and your right 10 k a year is lot of money, that could be used for re stocking which in turn would in turn bring in more members .must be given careful consideration though cos no going back once it is in place

The hydro plant at Linton appears to take about 5-10% of the water going over the weir, uses it and then puts it back just below the weir at just about the sane rate as the rest of the river. It can't slow the rate of flow down too much or else it wouldn't be efficient and the river would back up and escape over the weir. It's not the quietest of things but I should think that those living in the flats would have more to argue on that point. In my opinion if more of these hydro plants means less wind turbines then all well and good. It needs to be kept in perspective, we're not talking about the Thames barrier here. Have a walk downstream of Grassington Bridge and have a look.

I too fished Topcliffe on saturday and was shocked at the state of the end peg, but I think the next big flood will move it all away[probably into the parrish pegs] the bushes and saplings will take a longer time to rectify themselves. Other issues come to mind after reading the replies to this thread firstly the hydro scheme what happens to the great weirpool peg right bank gone I presume. Road in to river and a car park well whoopie do not a good swap in my mind. Trout fishing and night fishing? both rule breakers!. I reckon what needs to happen at Topcliffe is fence the left bank and gate the carpark to keep out non members, scrap the hydro scheme and ask the members to self police the venue. One other thing that needs to happen is members need to stop over zealous digging out of pegs 'cos it looks more and more like a commercial fishery every season. Amen.

hi e,pegger.the e/a does engage with our club all the time, read the graylig thread.the contract at topcliffe will be for 40 years at no cost to us ,£10,000 x 40 = you know the answer to that, there will i am sure be some objections so the result will be reached after all have been heard, like i pointed out in a erlier post the wier was used as a hydo power plant ,although it was built by a railway co to allow steam engines to fill up with water.stan

Stan,
I'm assuming the controlling clubs downstream have been consulted?
