Take a shotgun as shooting fish in a barrel is slightly more challenging than catching at moor monkton. Was there yesterday fished after match 6pm to 9pm lost count of how many carp I caught. Fished front pond with waggler in peg60, 6lb line straight through to a size4 either mussel or prawn on hook feeding both. Some of the match anglers also use cat food as bait but the 1 I was talking to said its horrible smelly stuff to use. Bought my licence online yesterday morning but will not be rushing to fish the place once the rivers are open unless they are unfishable for some reason. Some people may love muddy puddles but to me its not fishing there appears to be no real challenge in catching, I can understand that many anglers struggle to walk the distances involved in river fishing. Roll on 16th!

As Jeremy says Steve. Just turn up, cast in and if you haven't had a fish in 5 minutes go home and put your gear on EBay I had never fished this place before Leeds bought it but I can see why it was called Carpvale . . . ive never fished a place so easy in all my life. But hey, each to their own and if you want a confidence booster this is the place to go Not long now

Agree with Dave also they do put up a good fight, so great for testing your gear which is what I was doing (12ft float rod for chub/barbel)

I took 3 rods with me, but only set 1 up as it was all I needed, you won't need more than 1 as playing two fish at the same time is nigh on impossible.

I thought that would be the case just after I asked. That's the trouble with getting old you stop thinking before you post.

Steve I fished it after the work party last week, fished chopped mussels on a size 14, 7lb line on the pole in the margins on the match pool. Can't remember how many carp I caught on mussels, but when I ran out I randomly chopped up a large tin of luncheon meat and caught more and bigger fish on that! Could have had something to do with the time of day( around the time the fish start searching the margins for discarded bait) anyway just keep the loose feed going in and the place fizzes with feeding fish. The only problem is striking at liners, the challenge isn't catching, just how much can you catch, enjoy your day mate.
Eddie.

Hi Eddie. I’ve got all-sorts of baits to try that I’ve collected so I’m just going to experiment and have a cheap days fishing.

if you haven't had a fish in 5 minutes go home and put your gear on EBay I reckon it took me half an hour .... and then it was a small chub, so I should give up Kept missing bites until my first carp came after nearly an hour, but that's cos I was fishing method across to the island into the wind on the match lake, so I couldn't tell what was the wind and what was a lift-up bite. Got smashed by something rather large at the end of one such run & lost the feeder. I was really experimenting with different methods and baits, but when I changed to fishing the margins in a new peg on Cyprio with no wind issues I did, temporarily, match my Mrs' impressive carp catch rate (and cos I had a reel, I could land the smaller carp lots quicker than she could on the pole). I also managed the achievement of blanking for half an on the front lake .... till I caught a roach ... but again I was experimenting with techniques in mid-lake, rather than fishing those prolific margins. So in other words you can make it hard or easy for yourself.

The match lake was the only lake available today (despite the pictures of the booking diary) and not knowing any better I just sat where I felt comfortable. After being in the water for 5 minutes I knew the pressure was on so I was relieved when the rod tip bend round and I was into a monster skimmer. Less than 5 minutes later the rod tip flew around and was into mirror number 1 and they came steady until 2:30. Around 3 I got my first head shaking common which was good fun until the rain started. Total for the day was 1 skimmer, 8 mirrors and 3 commons good fun but not a fish a chuck and pretty much the same as every one else that I could see.

I was talking to a couple of blokes when I thought I had lost my car keys and I'm pretty sure they said someone had left an hold all. It was my first time there so I don't know who I was talking to but they were getting some other left luggage from the end of the cabin.
