Have you put the Barbel gear away then ? Must admit I'm tempted to get the 7 pound line out and the tip rod. Sitting behind the old Barbel rod with bites few and far between doesn't seem very appealing Looking forward to a proper Chub session with the left overs of Ian McBarbels stinky paste Also Got myself a nice Greys Bewick centre pin which is already loaded with 3 pound line in anticipation of my special passion of wading in the middle of a winters river catching Grayling . . . Fishings almost 12 months a year now

Don't think I will be abandoning barbel just yet, but maybe it's time to pick the moment more carefully, wait for favourable conditions. Anyway I'm ready for a change, just done something like 6/8 weeks dedicated barbeling and to be honest looking forward to a bit of stick float fishing, it's been successful, but variety is the spice of life! (and fishing).
Eddie.

Looking forward to a bit of grayling fishing, just invested in some new neoprene chestwaders just hope I get more use out off them than I have my barbel rods this year. This year just seems to have flown by and not done half off what I had planned during pre season

But there's always next season! Or the season after. Eddie.

I have barbel fished the Yorkshire rivers for many years and been fortunate to catch several doubles.I have noted the interest that others have for these fish but they have lost their appeal to me. I am not happy about the 'circus' of anglers that have belatedly discovered these fish nor for the litter, rule breaking and downright bad manners that some bring to the sport. So when it gets cold I am happy that most of them are not on the riverbank and they are rarely interested in pike or trout fishing along with their carp fishing buddies. I am happy to avoid them.

well I went out today I did a Rushy 3 different places on the swale
started at Helperby walked round to second bend by this time I was completely wet through with sweat pouring of me, its so over grown I could only spot around 3 pegs. but with the ground been wet I walked back for a easy peg, I have nether seen the swale so low you could see the bottom nearly all the way down the length. any way
after an hour I had a nice 120z Grayling not had 1 for a few years, after another hour decided to go to Thorton bridge 2 hours there and no bite.
so nipped up to Topcliff pestered with small stuff (maggot) on the hook on 1 rod maggot feeder and corn on the other, had 1 decent take on corn but fish just let go. then I had a big fish on the maggots bent the rod right round but as I was bringing it in it let go.
I did have 1 or 2 splashes of pike in the margins, in the 3 places I fished the water was low and gin clear.
no Chub where showing for me today.

To what eddie? barbel, circus, manners, pike, trout and why have you got that little blue male attachment? It's just this season, I have been checking books for LDASA and everyone I have spoken to, 1 were happy to have their book checked, 2 decent enough anglers that seem to know what they are doing and 3 not breaking any rules. I didn't ask anyone if they were ex carp anglers ( how is that relevant? ), but overall this season had nothing but positive experiences and learned a bit more, by meeting fellow anglers. Sorry if you've had any trouble on the banks Geoff, but I've found it a pleasure to fish so far! Ps. Thanks Brian, I had no idea why the symbol was there! Eddie.

I have probably done around sixty hours river fishing so far this season for pretty meagre rewards, not been able to fish for a few weeks due to a back problem. I have landed a grand total of five barbel In those sixty hours and have to say I have enjoyed It very much,I could have broadened my horizons and fished easier rivers but I was happy to do most of my fishing on the Derwent a tough nut to crack for barbel. Hopefully back permitting I will get back on the rivers before winter sets In although winter fishing has always been a passion old age and health issues make It less appealing these days. Hopefully I will get some chub and roach fishing In this winter pike have never held much appeal to me not sure why, as for boat fishing I did a bit In my younger days but my feet are firmly planted on terra firma these days. Memories of friday nights on the beer up early Saturday hungover off to Scarborough sitting In the boat waiting to set sail with the diesel engine choking us to death watching my fellow anglers groundbaiting before we got out of the harbour[whos been eating beetroot sarnies} happy days
