Craig is spot on there blanker, there is no short cut to success on Knotford unless folk divulge their innermost secrets which you won't find on here I can tell you!
You need to get out and walk round the lake a few times with your polaroids on and talk to anglers down there, people think they are not approachable but if you are quiet, don't get in their way etc you will be amazed at what folk will tell you. Some good blokes fish down there.
It took me years to find out how to catch the fish in there, and even then I am learning all the time.
Ged - a 30lb plus carp costs thousands and takes years to grow to that size as you obviously know already. It is shocking to hear of this fish being found dead, I totally agree. Its a big loss to the lake and we all need to keep an eye out for poor fish handling and idiots fishing.

It is gutting to hear about the fish, there are others to go for in there, Blanker, i have walked around the lake probably nearly 20 times now in the last month and half. Every single time speaking to people, if people dont want to speak to me then that is fine but it does not harm to try three times when i have been up it has taken me about two hours to walk round because i have been intrigued by what i have witnessed Get yourself up there, i am bursting a gut to get my uni work finished so i can get up there, since joining the club in January I am yet to wet a line up there, but i do feel that after walking around the lake i am better off compared to someone who hasn't. I going down the first weekend of June and i can't wait!!!

the car park at knotford is a joke..this lake is one of the best specamin lakes in yorkshire..eny other club would love to have this water on there books..I don't think the club is botherd about it.or the lads that fish down there...every one I talk to down there has had some sort of damage to there motors not just latley over meny years...looking at this web site is seems that kippax is there main priority and that's the way the clubs going..comercials ....hole in the grounds..A car park wouldn't cost the earth ...the members have payed enough in damages to vehicles..its about time thay gave something back...not just the hi teck oil drums

Isn't there already two gates there, albiet they are both a bit tatty, but surely all is needed is to tidy them up a little and a padlock added...not really that much in the costing. I'll donate £10/£15 towards it rather than the club having to pay

If the club are not willing to cough up for what i 'think' most anglers on the water want, then would it not just be less hassel and us do it for ourselves? Like those at Wintersett did?
To put up a gate and get a lock and some keys cut etc would not cost the earth and if those who fish the place are all willing to do so then there will be less chance for such acts of vandalism as well as additional secruity to the venue and any unwanted guests will be deterred :-)
The 'tatty' gates lol, i think they will fall of the hinges, come on boys or even the club, help us out . . . . . anybody got any rough guesses at a price or any other potential ideas??

I agree with you gizzerd..had my car done two months ago...the tw.ts stole my battery ..a shame coss I had a great days fishing..and most of the members fishing were sound lads and by the way well pissed of with the club over the lack of safe parking....I fished shelf dam a few weeks..a no1 water...to my surprise thay had fenced it off all the way round...a brand new 8 ft metal fence..about 7 to 8 hundred meters around ,,,,I asked a fellow angler why thay put it up and he said;it was to keep the dog walker out....dog walkers for fu.k sake..must be nice,,,800mts of fence for dog walkers,,,,The car park at knotford is about 50mts square ..not 800...and all we get is an oil drumm filled with concrete ...I agree with other comments about putting cars next to you're pegs,,,not ideal but what are you ment to do when the club dnt give a toss

knotford men, good news i hope! your comments from the web got an airing last night at the fisheries management meeting, it was decided to propose a new locking gate with access to driving your cars on to the bank and then locking it behind you. the position has to be decided and I'm going up there now to have a look, this proposal goes before finance and then delegates but i think we will be o.k, these meetings are within weeks so i don't think you will have to wait long. some of us do give a toss!!!! regards frim.

re/gates just got back from knotford, seven bivies on bank talked to all anglers about security and got a very different story by every one of them to the problems that have been put over the site. thats always going to happen so we will have to come up with a compromise. one thing they all agreed on was cars driving round the venue was a definate NO NO. they all wanted to keep it natural and think a secure compound within a extended carpark would do the trick, keys etc can all be sorted later but we need some feedback and sensible ideas in-case the original proposal needs tweeking before going in front of finance and the delegates. regards frim

a secure compound with a locking gate is great .when its wet and muddy driving round would churn up the grass and make the place look a mess thanks frim for taking the time out to getting it sorted

I agree, driving round the lake with the car is a no no, think it is best to extend the car park and have a fence and i gate with key, brilliant, i think that using a barrow is fine and no need to drive around the lake.
