A clear set of rules specific to knotford are needed . Please don't go and start sculpting perfect swims with wood chip and sleepers its not that sort of venue . The cutting back and opening them up is needed as some have over grown . Some of the swims on the high banks could do with steps putting in to make them safer . Leave the stock of carp alone for a few years . Get the horses in check ..good luck with that one . Lift the ban on the use dog biscuits and 3 rods in the winter months . My advice would be fish the place before you start thinking you know what's best for knotford If you want a quick template of what to do with knotford, here it is! Bang on.

Jimmy not long after you left the owner of the horses appeared on the seen, Phil seems to know him quite well and went over to chat to him. I thought it might be a good idea to meet the guy, so toddled over to meet him myself. Andy, the owner of the horses, is actually a really nice guy and very approachable. He is happy with northfaces fences and has taken all his horses from the lakeside( apart from the two young horses, which are too young to go in with the others) and he is quite amenably to working with anglers ideas. He does have the right to graze his horses around the lake. But overall it seems a reasonable trade off, as it keeps the grass trimmed and he does a good job of policing the place and as a bailiff has looked after the fishing pretty well. This includes trying to stop fish thefts and stopping what sound like all night parties on the venue which included members and non members swimming, shouting and drunk at 2am in the morning. He's a great asset to have at the place and a pleasure to meet. Let's report back to Leeds, see if we can get some materials and organise some work parties and sort some of the muddy spots out. Now two thirds of the lake are out of bounds to the horses, progress is being made! Well if he does have grazing rights wot idiot gave them ? and as for looking after the lake wot a joke ,as wrighty 29 says where wos he when 20+ 20s and a 30 where getting stolen and taken to pileys dam over a 2 year period ? I fished knote a year doing 4 nights most weeks and never seen him walk round the lake once .He will be a nice guy to talk to with free grazing and water i no i would be but will still put as many of his horses he wants on the lake, and as for 2 young horses been allowed no a total ban on ALL horses on the lake he has his own land for his horses ITS A FISHING LAKE !!!!!!!

The reason I joined a committee was to help with improvement work to our venues, work parties etc. Knotford obviously is in the frame for some attention. The horse situation looks to be a lot of anglers no.1 priority, but not everyones. Saying that I am agreeing that something needs to be done. It's great listening to everyones opinions and I am sure we will ask some telling questions on your behalf, the difficulty I find is what questions do I ask? One angler says we want silvers so everyone can enjoy fishing the place, another lets have more carp, next one no more fish, but then again the pike seem to be in trouble. Every angler has a different wish/complaint list, we will never all be satisfied. So what I am taking to the next meeting and bringing up on behalf of what I hope is the majority. 1. Control of the horses and keeping them from trashing the lakeside and away from anglers. 2. Some paths to improve access through the worst of the mud. 3. Consideration of some stocking of silvers for several reasons. These are what I am hearing as priorities and so far what I am intending bringing up. Ps. One thing I would like is the car park receiving some hard-core, it's a bit of a lake after rain. If we get somewhere with this, hope we get some of you enthusiastic posters, just as keen on some work parties.

Don't forget my 30 carp a year stocking Eddie Right, best go win this fishing match No need to stock it yet rushy, it's just coming good again, have a go next year instead.... Let's not try and create another Bradford. There's still a market for challenging fishing isn't there?? Eddie, take no notice mate, at least your trying to help. Re: work parties I put a price to graham about doing a proper hardcore path with a digger (18" to 2 foot wide) round the lake the attract more anglers but got no response. I'd be apprehensive to give up my weekends to barrow hardcore and bark chipping round for nothing not because I'm lazy (I already do my bit) but because what's being proposed sounds a bit half arsed and will end up a mud bath again in a season or two......seems pointless to me. This bit on what was the boggy south east corner was done properly but took two of us a day and needed digging out first. This is unobtrusive and still there 3/4 years on why not put it right round.... Simply tipping stuff in mud is a waste of everyone's time.

Shows what can be achieved with some hard work, the right materials and a bit of common sense, a section of path that is useable all year round!

Who at the club will have the answers about the horses. It seems fishy (excuse the pun) that there are no answers from a club representative.

If you read through some of the old threads (trouble at knotford), I think Stan actually mentions that Andy has grazing and the reason why.
