Yeah that's the peg, upstream there are a lot of impenetrable willows on our bank, I often thought about cutting a peg out, seems the far bank anglers have better access. A lot of big chub in the peg and below too. Its a really nice stretch of river!

Totally agree eddie even had 10mins hacking with a bankstick to find a way in very steep bank down to river and no obvious peg site. Another venue that requires a working party, although there are possibly 4 or 5 more pegs that could be opened up.

I know what you mean, no need for armchair pegs, just some subtle access to the river here and there, its a shame when hundreds of yards are totally no go areas.

Hi, Can anybody on here tell me what the official area is for parking at Helperby these days? When I was fishing this stretch regularly 10 to 12 years ago you could park in the Oak Tree carpark for a £1 after placing this in an envelope with your vehicle reg. written on it. I notice that on the waters guide on the Leeds website that this is still listed as the car parking area however in the yearbook it is not listed as a car parking area. I just want to be clear on this as I fished here a few weeks ago & parked in the Oak Tree. I went into the pub & the barman took my envelope said it was ok but I got the impression that this did not happen with any regularity regarding other anglers parking here. I know that we are not allowed to park on Church Street or unload gear there. So whats the official line on this ?

Just park in the village now, you can usually find somewhere on the main road near the top of the private road down to the footbridge. No parking at the pub anymore, but I haven't had any probs finding parking and no hassle from the locals, in fact anything but, they all seem very nice and chatty. Must be because they live in such a beautiful village lol. Hope that answers your question.

Some lovely fish Ian and Jez, well done! I'm planning a visit to the Swale this week at some point but hadn't decided on a stretch yet, this thread is definitely swaying me towards Helperby though

Is there access from Wath lane off the Boroughbridge road ? I don't think so, but looking at satellite images it does look possible to get to the bridge from that direction. But I wouldn't have a clue where you could park and there looks to be an awful lot of bridal way to walk to get to the footbridge. Eddie.

I went a couple of weeks ago for and someone had parked down at the bottom of Bridge Street next to the fence. As I walked back to my car parked in the village I noticed the car had a very curt notice on it saying no parking for anglers !!!! Take some hay ever tablets and mozzy repellant if you go , pollens wicked and the Mosies are vicious

Oh , and a couple more things ..... Don't leave your sandwiches at home on the worktop cost if you do there is no shop in the village and you might have to go the pub and have your trousers pulled down for a three and a half nicker chip buttie I don't think the ladies doing lunch in the lovely beer garden were too impressed with my attire either . . . although I thought I looked quite fetching in my waders and sweat soaked tee shirt And before you ask . . . I blanked . . . But I wasnt feeling very well and I had a headache
