Oh , and a couple more things ..... Don't leave your sandwiches at home on the worktop cost if you do there is no shop in the village and you might have to go the pub and have your trousers pulled down for a three and a half nicker chip buttie ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) I don't think the ladies doing lunch in the lovely beer garden were too impressed with my attire either . . . although I thought I looked quite fetching in my waders and sweat soaked tee shirt ![8D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/insane.png) And before you ask . . . I blanked . . . But I wasnt feeling very well and I had a headache Don't leave your sandwiches at home on the worktop cost if you do there is no shop in the village!!!
Rushy mate there is a shop in Helperby just open your left lughole and you will see ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Ian Job well done on the way home ! thanks for helping me look for my landing net handle - it was really good of you. I put it to good use later on with an 8lb 2oz Barbel & a decent sized Perch. Cheers Andy

Hello I have fished Helperby three times this season and had a barbel on each visit from different swims. I was last there on Sunday and had the whole stretch to myself. The river was low but I find this length a good bet in these conditions with the more pacey water. I think I was in Jhops swim on sunday near the end of our length. I do not find the walk as long as some make out. It has nothing on the horseshoe bend at Hammerton anyway!

Not got to helperby yet this season, but had some good days up there last summer. Your right the walk doesn't seem too bad, but it is easy going. I see it's your first post welcome to the forum!
Eddie.

Think the walk back seemed long for me as I was fishing for 12 hours in really warm weather, ran out of fluid to drink about 6pm this was all after been at work at 6am. Would think its probably mile & half from village parking to bottom of length. Your right don't think anywhere has the walk to kissing gate been there done that might have a look at it after working party, but only if crops have been harvested.

Went for my second chub/barbel session of the season today. Decided to give the Helperby AC stretch of the swale a go. Turned up to buy my day ticket about 9 a.m to find Rushy was right. The post office/ coffee shop/ general store/ seller of day tickets is no more. Finished up on the Bradford City length at Asenby. Now I used to tell folk - find water that is a good walking pace. What did I do ? fished a stretch where water movement was practically undiscernable. I am getting lazy ! but I will fish the longer walk faster water next time. Not a touch - that'll teach me !! where's my 4 wt ?

Geoff, I to had doubts about where to get day tickets, so went on their website and got the email address of the club secretary. He was very helpful and sent a list of places to get day tickets off the top of my head they are fish & things boroughbridge 3 tackle shops in york 2 farms at fawdington and Peter Nelson newsagents & motor mechanic main street helperby hope this helps in future and likewise for others. Will have a look at email and post full accurate list

I agree it is a shame that shop shut. They used to do some awesome sandwiches! Your right you can get the same ticket at Fawdington. (another favourite of mine) I had the same problem on Sunday as regards fluids I had to go home much earlier than I wanted . It was annoying watching all the fish splashing about thinking what might of been if I had stayed until dusk. Anyway always a next time . It is as said by others on here a great place to be.

When me and Ronny fished it a few weeks ago in the 30 degree heat the only option we had for fluid was the pub ![8D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/insane.png) Trouble was the lager was really cold and they had rule that you had to have two pints . . . . Well I think it was a rule ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)
