Sorry to shatter any illusions but Garlic Spam Is for wimps ok garlic spam Is nothing new such and such a super market has It |in stock Ohhh no the barbel fanatics have cleaned em out buying It by the trolley load. So I fell for It went to tesco thought why not If Its that good, looked on shelf yes there was a few tins to be had, dont go mad i thinks 5 tins should suffice ohhhh go on then make It a round half dozen I arent feeding em am I? . So I opens a tin today on my local not exactly prolific barbel river the Yorkshire Derwent, was i impressed? hang on this is surposed to be garlic Spam . Garlic my Arsene wenger could I smell Garlic Noooooooooooooo, maybe i have opened a tin of the bog standard spam by mistake, no!!! but it doesnt do what It says on the tin does It. So If you are In the market for Garlic flavoured baits forget Garlic Spam and get yourself some serious "stuff" my advice go to your local super market deli and buy some extra strong garlic sausage or source some pure garlic oil. If you go down the pure Garlic oil route be warned this stuff would stop a rampaging bull elephant at 50 paces It stinks to high heaven one drop Is enough to have any bait rearing up and bighting your head off. Maybe the subtle tones of garlic spam are Its strong point but It certainly aint strong the french would poo poo It as not fit for human consumption never mind for the barbel!!!!!!!!!!! If any one has anything good to say about garlic spam please feel free |I will probably dismiss It as yes you guessed it SPAM!!!!!!

I took a tin with me to the Trent on Wednesday evening. Opened it at 7pm and plonked it by my side. By 9pm I had to move it downwind , I was feeling ill with the stink of it Never got a twitch on it .............. only 4 and a half tins left now

You could be right Dave trust Hull to get all the duff friday afternoon tins. Oh and there should be plenty of garlic spam available In Hull barbel anglers are a rare breed round here there all Carp mad and If they aint catching em posing and weighing em there barbecueing em Apparently there good eating but you need plenty of garlic on em Think I will stick with cod and chips plenty of salt and vinegar

Not strictly garlic spam related - but at Skip Bridge one evening in a swim we might as well just call "THE RATS" cos they're everywhere (horse field end of the fence, easy access), I had them rustling all around me ....then suddenly one big rat is at my feet not realising i'm there with - no exaggeration - one lump of spam the size of at least one third of a the contents of a whole tin in its mouth - will be from someone who had fished there same day, probably just before me, in fact, cos like i say the rats are everywhere and would have made sure they got it pretty soon .....
anyway rat takes one look at me, gobsmacked to see me, and drops the meat at my feet and runs away!!! (or are they rats that someone has trained to go and bring them bait??? retreiver rats?
WHO LEAVES THAT MUCH MEAT BEHIND AND DOESN'T AT LEAST FEED THE FISH WITH IT? Ah well, benefit of the doubt, the other angler probably somehow dropped it by accident from a plastic container.
needless to say, I didn't touch it, but when i'd finished in the swim my forceps chopped it into about 10 pieces and flicked it into the river under the willows.

Well I managed to sneak a late pass out last night so went to join Andy Mortia who was having fun with a fish a chuck silver fest. I opted for the Carpbelling approach after a hard days filling and painting After a couple of hours fishing with the river up and coloured it was obvious it was going to be a slow session for me - Andy meanwhile was trying to empty the river of the complete silver fish population Confirmation that is was going to be a slow night appeared before my very eyes. Ah well , we’ve all taken the wrong path in life once or twice Nine oclock arrived and the snail was almost at the end of my rod after a 3 hour wasted journey. Andy appeared on my shoulder ready to go as the rain came down in earnest. “Y’ad owt ? “ “ Bugga all , but I’ve just put a big lump of Garlic Spam on and wanged it over to that bush for the last half hour then I’m off to the pub “ As we had a catch up and put the world to rights for 15 minutes the rain got heavier “ That’s it , I give in “ says me “ Give me a minute to pack up and I’ll come with you “ I started to put my gear away , unhooking mat, scales, camouflage backdrop , studio lighting (all the usual stuff ) and I heard a noise from Andys direction “ A can hear thi baitrunner Rush “ “What ? “ “Thi baitrunner , thas got a fish on “ “Yea I’ve got my baitrunner on mate “ “ Ya deaf git, a said tha’s got a fish on , tha’s got sparks n smoke coming off thi baitrunner “ And then my lug eventualy connected to my brain, I swivelled round from packing my lighting system away and without even looking at the rod grabbed it and struck based purely on Andy “advice “ We heard a faint “aaaaaaaargh “ which we assumed was the snail flying through the air and a few minutes later we had the Garlic Spam snaffling culprit on the deck . Result …………. And still time for a pint on the way home

Oh and no photos either, forgot to pick my phone up rushing to get off! Eddie.
