Seems quite a few of us were out fishing yesterday, this is how my evening session panned out! Got home from work, made up a flask, put the tackle in the car and set off up the A1, by ten past five I was sat behind two rods at the side of the river. One rod fishing boilie with a pva bag of mixed size pellets, plus a few halved boilies. Second rod baited with plain luncheon meat, none of that stinky garlic stuff for me thankyou lol. About 20mins later I get a couple of knocks on the boilie rod, then bingo! It's away. Following a typically dogged fight, a stunningly pristine barbel at exactly 5lb graces the unhooking mat and I'm a happy angler! On checking the hook link I decide it looks a bit roughed up so tie a new one and recast. Nothing much happens for a while, so I do a couple of recasts to freshen the baits and catapult a few chunks of meat out in a line to form a bait trail(that's the theory anyway!) and a little later the meat rod is away! Despite fishing with the baitrunner off this fish manages to just reach the willows on the far bank and that worrying grating and bumping is transmitted down the line. But determined not give another inch and with some extreme pressure I coax the fish free. It feels like a decent fish so now I play it carefully untill landed. Looking in the net I can see its quite a good fish, could it be a double, on the scales and 9lb 9oz! My second river pb in two weeks, but not quite the double I have been pursuing on this river for the last couple of seasons. Later I had another nice fish 6lb 10oz, so all in all another good short session and back home by 9:30ish. Eddie.

That's good going that mate I fished Asenby started about 3 and fished till about 9:15 6 hours plus without a bite not on my own as two others there never had a touch neither ,another guy came about 6 and headed down past the island and re- ape are about 8 saying he had 2 barbel and a chub in the streamy Water .where I was the peg of my capture of my first and only 2 barbel the water was a very slow pace and running with a peaty tinge would this av an effect on the fishing making the faster water a better option tight lines Paul

Cracking fish. Background not quite as 'oil painting' as the last one though.

Cheers guys, yes I have been getting a good few fish lately, this season is being very kind so far 6 fish over 9lb and one a double, but you can't beat a perfect fish even if it is only 5lb, this is the pristine one I mentioned, beautiful fish!

Has It got to the stage now when reports dont even mention which river a fish has come from? dont get me wrong I am all In favour not going overboard with details but not saying which river and photo shopping the background. Isnt that a little bit over the top? |One piece of Himalayan balsam looks pretty much the same as another . I am sure there will be those who agree and those who dont!

I think we just presumed It was from a river Eddie, I am sick of turning up on river venues and trying to dig a few worms from the bank and finding nuts buried every where .

It doesn't bother me if someone posts and doesn't say where it came from. Regular river anglers can identify an area very easily and it is amazing how word spreads , especially amongst us Barbel anglers. I know several lads that don't post anymore because they have accidentally let small details of a venue slip which has resulted in a n influx of anglers and their hard earned years of effort all gone up in smoke as they can't get on their preferred venue / peg anymore. You only need 3 or 4 anglers to find out where the fish are and before you know it the car parks full Cracking fish Eddie

All joking aside, I think you will find that in most posts I have made, I give full details of where, when and even how I fished. Going as far as featuring the swim in some photographs background. I have already said I was asked to keep quiet about this venue as it is a favorite of another forum member and I can understand why,we have a lot of viewers who are non forum members, in fact as we all know anyone can view it. So on this occasion sorry but I feel I would be letting someone down by publicising the venue! It's not even a leeds water so I'm not depriving any members the chance to fish it. Eddie.

Spent today cleaning and reorganising my gear after Fridays lunchtime to 8pm session. Going to have to pay more attention to the weather forecast, I thought it was supposed to stop raining in the afternoon! Ha. The drizzle turned to light rain the light rain turned to, well you know where this is heading. Was glad to not have to come out from under the brolly while the monsoon continued lol. it was quite chilly and breezy, and everything was slowly getting soaked through. The only little ray of sunshine was this 4/5lber, back down to earth, literally as I slid down the bank twice trying to climb out of the swim!! Eddie.

After a few "stunts" on the banks of the Nidd and Swale due to the slippery weeds and mud, the dog spike and rope are going into my rod bag from now on, we fishermen are usually tucked well away from peeps, so it pays to play safe. On Friday evening I was sat under my re proofed brolley in the downpour, at the same time Rushy was sat under his which was LEAKING LIKE A SIVE! :-)....life is so unfare! :-)))))))
