been back down today they gone to town with the scrub on the dams, its really open still if they do it every year it should grow back, i doubt the trees and willows will though some of them were 2ft thick, they have cut some trees back and it has created a bit of access on to the dam top, maybe if u can park there u can see your car from quite a distance rather than having it at the foot of the dam and unseen. botany is really low still, the fishing platforms are about 3ft higher than the water maybe they should be taken out whilst u can get to them they are a accident waiting to happen and make the lake look unsightly as nothing last's forever, im sure they served well. maybe if the commitee/board got in touch with the guys who are working there now they could help in some way while they are still onsite?

tree cutting on dams is to preserve structural stability and is acondition to obtain insurance for dams, required by law.Dams are inspected regularly to comply with the dams act (of which i know nowt) Am more concerned by indescriminate tree felling on other areas by birdwatchers or whoever they are, they have no right to carry out what amounts to vandalism and need to be stopped as soon as we can find out who they are. Now the ground is wet,the 4x4 idiots are back and are churning up a new part of wintersett and i dread to think what the place will be like by spring, when is something going to happen about this?

the 4x4 drivers are braking the law,who have been told by wakefield council who i also met ,so ring the cops and let them sort it out if you see them on there again.stan..

call the cops! youve more chance of getting hold of prince charles,by the time cops arrive the damage is done and its up to us to put a stop to this destruction, not evade the issue.Whats it got to do with wakefield council anyway?the outcome of the meetings seems to have been forgotten, hope im wrong but have yet to see action,we could have had a gate made and fitted months ago with little or no cost to the club if allowed to,now the only people able to get on wintersett half moon to fish are the ones with their own sherman tank!just as well cos its starting to look like a battleground instead of a fishery. If plans are afoot to sort things out,why has nothing mentioned in these pages?Since meeting nothing has been heard and members are loosing hope of seeing improvement to fishery. Its a little naive to expect police to deal with 4x4 drivers ,if thats the best advice then ill give it a try, dont hold yerbreath!Dont keep us in the dark please,we could ave a gate sorted out for the new year, just need the go ahead

hope all is well everyone, ive been busy down at wintersett of late and the place is quite tidy now, the harder work of keeping unwanted folk and 4x4 drivers is still there though and is out of my hands, still i feel very happy with my personal imput and dont mind a little work for the pastime i love. As an angler who enjoys fishing big waters i have seen what kind of upkeep they take to keep in top condition, for example hollowell in northampton. 1, there is a baliff twice a day with a works 4x4 checking on the resavoir and anglers. 2, there is 3 locked gates to my knowing with a £20 key price 3, there is maintained access to 1/2 of the resavoir, which would be part closed if bad weather had happened, then monitered to re open. 4, its over £90 per year to fish inc. nightbook. My point is that i dont think thats possible for wintersett. if gates are put up someone would lose the lock or try to drive round the half moon and get stuck due to no baliff closing access at boggy parts leaving the roads (if regraded) as bad as they are now its life and it all happens!and before you know it, it's back to square one!! fair play to all the anglers who fish/lookafter sandwath lake it looks really well. all the best for new year and tight lines to all fellow members. az..

This is an open question to the commitee, and not aimed at you Stan, since Leeds took over Wintersett, what improvements have been carried out,has there been any sort of restocking and what,if any are the plans for the future, and finally how long is the lease going to run?. Why does the Heronry want to restrict access to anglers on the bank running from the boathouse to the dam wall at the Cold Hiendly end of Wintersett. Earlier this year I sent Chris Wright photos of a 4x4 that had got bogged down with promises that something would be down ie a prosecution,I'm still waiting to hear!.So the suggestion that we should phone the Police if we see any is frankly a waste of time, they have better things to do. So why not make a date to meet the anglers on site who care about and clean up Wintersett on a regular basis, there are things that need pointing out that cannot be done in the comfy surrounds of the Anglers Club Most of the people who fish Wintersett only buy the year book to fish there, add the night permits to this and it generates a good bit of cash for the club,so how about seeing a return of some sort for our money. I look forward to a reply.

thanks for the backup Gary, its not just me that thinks something needs doing. as of this afternoon i woulnt recomend anybody try to get round half moon in normal car.Re gate, i understand it has been agreed that gates are fitted by UK coal and keys administered by the club.Keys will be available to members at small cost .wakefield AC have been doing it for years with great success on some fisheries.Anybody who begrudges paying 3 or 4 quid for a key must be stupid, the benefits are clear.ALL FISHERIES should be locked, its the only way forward in these days where areas of the country are being abused by flytipping,4x4 morons, people dumping and burning stolen cars, people selling drugs, people taking drug, people avvin their leg-over in broad daylight(try explaining that to a 4 year old) people camping and having raves(litter) and of course people fishing without paying. Am i making my point?Im sure there will be some reasons against a gate but im struggling to find a good un The areas ruined by 4x4s are usually flattened out and re-seeded by us,as are the areas scorched by dumped burning cars but any such work is a waste of time until we see a gate installed and the ground dries out in spring, its a continual process and areas will need closing off to vehicles, thats not a problem.I agree with az about sandwath, its a good example of a fishery with its own gate, and some good lads who aint afraid of abit of graft.

gary and ged when are you guys down next? maybe we could meet up to put some ideas together, maybe a club official could be presant? a gate would solve problems im sure of it and i know i wouldnt lose my key or get stuck as i commented the other day, once the gate is up the real shape up would be worth doing, you both probably know but underneath the old route around the half moon theres still a bit of hardcore/stone if we get in a posistion to reinstate this road to an agreed location for a car park which suits the anglers on the resavoir, i will get a tracked excavator to make life easier if thats allowed. hope to see you both on the bank if i already havnt, im down most days.

i was down today ged, did a bit on the half moon. do you know if theres a regular angler down there with a deep red discovery? i have seen it a couple of times on the half moon but ive been on the dam so i dont know whether its an angler or not? dont know when im down next, got a fair bit of litter today so hoping that the gate and road are the next duties, i hope the earlier post's about the gates are being beared in mind and just awaiting reply, ive just parted with my money only to fish this one place.

u.k.coal boasts coal reserves in eccess of 140 MILLION TONNES!! They employ 2,900 people, there a major part in renewable energy, god knows what there annual turnover is, AND THEY CANT GET A GATE TO MAINTAIN ONE OF THERE SITES. I ask myself; if i was a land lord would i let a tennent pay rent for a property without a front door??? sort it out.
