As Frim had very kindly gone to great lengths to provide detailed advice and directions, I thought it would be rude if I didn't at least have a couple of hours chubbing, so off I set at 11 am in a buoyant mood thinking about how long it would be before I slipped my net under a quality Aire chub. ;D Arrived at TGI's only to find I couldn't park anywhere However, I'd remembered my scouting days of the early 70's and come prepared with my Gala Casino card. A few minutes sweet talking to the manager and I'd wangled myself a couple of hours free parking as long as I went in the Casino first "just to cover him" - Came out ten minutes later minus a fiver (if only that ball hadn't jumped out of number 23 at the last minute !!) Unperurbed and still smiling, I wandered though Staples car park and arrived at the river. I remembered Frim advising to "get down the wall" but don't recall him saying it was almost 9 foot high After pacing up and down the 100 yard stretch it became evident there were 2 pegs. Access to the first one required either a member of the Special Forces kitted out with Everest Expedition Kit or by rapelling from a helicoper hovering 30 foot above the peg.. The second peg had a tree near to the wall. Mmmm, I'd already spent a fiver on petrol and lost another fiver in the casino so there was no turning back !! I decided to do a dry run down the tree without tackle and gingerly stepped onto the obvious branch which seemed to be shouting "Here, put your foot on me" I then lifted my other foot up and slid my rear end off the wall to start my descent. Big mistake !! The cunning, coniving, welcoming branch snapped and I was freefalling through the tree almost losing my nadgers on another branch, which was obviously in on the plot.. Exactly 0.3 seconds later I was in a crumpled heap with a blackberry bush holding me in a half nelson Mick McManus would have been proud of Thinking the worst was over I started to untangle myself when I heard a distant shout of " Nice one Superman ! " I looked over the other side of the river and 2 guys were peering over the factory fence in hysterics. Needless to say I gave them a wave and shouted they should go back to work (it was something like that anyway !) I dusted myself down, cried a bit at the sight of blood and climbed back up the tree to get my gear. Lowered it all down as far as I could then dropped it the last foot or so. Nervously back onto the tree which was now minus a few branches and plus a few streaks of blood and clumps of hair and I was on terra firma once more. Got tackled up and sat in the sunshine with a flock of long tailed tittts and a Kingfisher keeping me company for 2 hours. Threw my feeder here there and everywhere. Near bank, far bank, middle, upstream, downstream, tip up, tip down, you name it. Bread , corn, cheese, maggot, caster , worm, blood soaked meat the lot ! NOT A SNIFF - THE CHUB PACKED AIRE had beaten and battered me and I'd spent most of my two hours worrying how I was going to get back up the 9 foot wall with all my gear - wait a minute - was that a helicopter I could see, with a man all dressed in black, holding an AK47, lowering a rope !!!

As I'm no mountain goat, maybe chub fishing the Aire in the centre of Leeds is a bad idea...

Seriously though you have been unlucky but its good to know that there are others prepared to go to the limit to get a bite, sorry but i should have told you where we hide the ladders Steve

Still laughing rushie, wait while you fish the peg that you go through the hole, up the little hill then down the slide. ;D I use PHOTOBUCKET its free, safe and easy to use, just upload pics, hover over img code and copy then paste to forum, there are loads of other ways but photobucket has the best editing pack for those that are interested. Just google photobuket and its all there. Steve PS I said its safe, you will probably get blown up ;D

Aaaaa rrgh - Thats the baby Liptugga - and thems the Mick Macmanus brambles at the bottom waiting for yours truly !!! we reckoned that the thud of you hitting the ground scared the chub off. next time take the rappelling gear with you lots of anchor points as you can see ;D
