I don't thing that the government realised how expensive this energy scheme would be, spent the money like water (if you get my drift)

Hi All
Update on Proposed Hydro Electric Scheme: A note to let you know that there is currently no further news on the proposal for a hydro electric scheme at Topcliffe Weir and the application status remains as ‘pending consideration’ with Harrogate Borough Council. We will continue to monitor the planning site and let you know of the next developments. Thanks as ever for your support.

Is there no time limit to a planning application? I agree that this has been up in the air for far too long.

There is nothing on Harrogates website to indicate an end date.

Is there no time limit to a planning application? I agree that this has been up in the air for far too long. The application has been made to the Council, and they *have* to make a decision on whether to approve it or not. If the application is approved then only then Council *could* put a condition on eg when work must be completed by. My understanding is that further work is being done to understand implications of the proposal, but the only way to know what that is is probably only through insider information or eg a Freedom of Info request. The issue of feed-in tariffs being reduced might also impact on the financial viability of the scheme. Even if planning permission is granted, the proposers might feel it's not worth their time pursuing the scheme to completion. They might even withdraw it from the planning process, under such circumstances. We can always hope so!

News re proposed hydro at Topcliffe Weir. The proposed application will be put in front of Harrogate Planning Committee on Tues 2 Feb at 2pm. The Planning Officer in charge of this application has recommended that the application be REFUSED. However the final decision is for the planning committee to make. Let's hope that the council accept the recommendation of their own planning officer. Finally we may get resolution to this thorny issue.

I don't want to speak at the meeting but I would like to attend. Do you know if that's allowed ? I can obviously ring up tomorrow but just wondered if you knew ? Cheers Dave R
