I emailed the planning folk yesterday and received a response today. Confirmation that it is an open meeting so anyone can attend. Think I will attend and see how things go . . . Hopefully the right way

Dave - the meeting is open to the public so anyone can attend. We are intending on speaking. Cheers Yes the meeting is open and anyone can attend. I think we need to note however that the time available for speaking is very limited. The Parish Councillors for Asenby and for Topcliffe EACH have a maximum of 3 minutes for which to speak. And ALL the objectors have a further maximum 3 minutes. If 3 objectors wish to speak, then they have 1 minute each. It's therefore important that Objectors use the 3 available minutes in the best possible way. It's therefore been decided that one person (ie the person who's been keeping everyone informed, publicising the No campaign and who also lives in the Mill) will speak on behalf of all objectors. The second thing to realise is that the members of the Planning Committee are legally bound only to take account of 'Material Considerations' in coming to a decision whether to allow the Application or not. You can see the list of these Material Considerations at www.rtpi.org.uk/media/686895/Material-Planning-Considerations.pdf. Examination of this list, combined with knowledge of the local situation suggests that objection areas can only really focus on: - areas where the process or proposal falls foul of local and national planning policies and the policies in Harrogate Council's Development Plan - any noise or disturbance resulting from use - any loss or effect on trees - any adverse impact on nature conservation interests & biodiversity opportunities - any effect on listed buildings and conservation - any inadequate or inappropriate landscaping and those are the areas being focussed on by the intended speakers (and also the key content of the Planning Officer's report). Hope that helps!

Yes it has! We have just heard from Harrogate BC that the Hydro application has been WITHDRAWN by the applicant. HBC will be writing to all objectors to advise of this latest situation. Do not go to Harrogate for the meeting! More news later

great news , cheered mine and my daughters day, she was going to the meeting and it is correct. on another note would the people running leeds and district please note and learn from this, because apart from graham i dont think that you have come out of this in too good a light, so in future take note of grass roots membership, ie discuss more, vote on issues more, dont act like mi5, dont be so pig headed, the members do care you know, and yes this is critissism but i think you deserve some , i feel so strong about this that it had to be said, well done to all against the hydro, including my daughter who lodged a local complaint.

Fair comments from Shaun in my opinion. Maybe it's a lesson learned, but only time will tell.
