Sounds like a plan Andy . I'll look up some dates in February As regards the Grayling in keepnets , it's not illegal to put them in nets so it's just one of those personal choices. I actually took my keepnet Chub fishing yesterday to see if it made any difference to putting them back and potentially spooking any others in the swim. Kiss of death that idea . . . didn't get a bite in 4 hours Must be same problem as you have on the forum matches dave

Well that's got that out of my system Arrived full,of enthusiasm at 8.30am after a 45 mile drive and a half nights sleep, dreaming about 2 pound Grayling and 6lb Chub. Got sorted out with my multiple layers of clothing and somewhat resembled the Michellin Man . Ronny arrived 5 minutes later prepared for the minus 2 weather conditions in his best track suit and new trainers. Plonked our gear down and had a cast in with the feeder rods while we decided tactics for the day. Ronny decided to stay put with the feeder out so he could check out the Adidas online and see if they had any new trendy trackys coming in. I opted to take the float rod roving and check out the venue. I came back after 2 hours having tried every fishy looking swim there was only to find out there were no fishes in them Ronny had amassed 2 grayling and a suicidal trout. We decided on a change of peg and set off to explore below the bridge. We gave a couple of pegs a try but to no avail and then I found a nice deep one with signs or previous occupancy ( by the way, whoever was the previous occupant . . I've brought you half bag of used hemp and sandwich wrappers home with me as it was obviously too much trouble for yourself ) An hour later we realised the fishy weren't here either so off we went back upstream to be greeted by Tom . . Aka Charly Farly. We milked him of all the information we could and decided on our next attack. Ronny was to sit back in the same peg with his feeder rod and check the web for deals on tracky bottoms and I would set off yet again with my float rod in search of the elusive Grayling shoal. Tom got his newspaper out and muttered something about us being a pair of Muppets I came back an hour and a half later having now walked and fished the length from end to end . . . Still without a bite Ronny was up to 8 Grayling, two suicidal trout and had found a rather dashing tracky set with stripes down the arms and legs for a steal at £15 in sports direct. Tom was still reading the newspaper. We decided to sit in Ronnys peg for the last hour and have a natter and try and twist toms arm into telling us how big his Barbel was in video number 89 (that should get it a few more views ) but he wasn't going to be cajoled. Just as we were about to go Ronnys rod went round and as he went to strike I barged him out of the way and got there before him Suicidal trout to, Rushy . . . Saved the blank A Good day out rounded off with a nice pint in the pub in Bedale on the way home . . . Everyone a winner

Dave that's a blank, you can't go pinching someone's fish lol. Put it down to the temperature and the snow melt. It's been a beautiful day for it though, I have been itching to get out myself!

Enjoyable report as ever Dave. I'm looking forward more and more to a weekend in Middleham..... keeping it very much "in my system" until I know that me system won't be freezing its thermostat off. Looking at the layout of campsite, village pubs, river, castle, stables, etc I know I can get my better half to really fall in love with this place as long as I don't blow it by going there when it's freezing or p*ssing down. Is this latest video of Tom's (Monday 26th Jan) about 200 yards below the bridge then? www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2mPcwabhD4

Is it just me who fast forwards through this latest batch of Tom's videos hoping that he never catches a barbel in his latest campaign at Middleham? I've never yet been to this lovely place and I already feel protective towards it. (beautiful images though in 174* to be fair Tom. can't wait to get there). * some of the actors and extras in 173 look a bit amateur though

I'm quite looking forward to fly fishing up there once the coarse season ends and the trout season starts. it's already one of my favourite stretches of river to fish.

Haha love it rushy!
I think tom is a really nice bloke but I do wish he would stop his videos, it's just causing issues.. Increase poaching, increase idiots hooking barbel and throwing them back killing them, they attract the wrong sorts of people to the club, the list goes on. I personally would love to see leeds put a stop to his videos and I don't think I'm the only one

If it wasn't for Toms videos I would have believed Middleham to be devoid of any fishy life due to me catching bugger all on my outings.

truth is that 9/10 people use his videos for info to find the fish for them rather than do the leg work them selfs. There not proper anglers How many idiots has it brought to leeds waters though? To many! The club couldn't give a monkeys cause they bring members, but in the long run they will loose members cause who wants to catch fish with no lips, full of damage etc Was talking to a lad yesterday who had joined cause of leeds and he thought it was ok to let 2 dogs run about, you think I enjoyed getting harassed by 2 dogs all morning? Gave up and went home at 10:30 Not saying he's brought all bad members he has brought good. There's a lot of bad blood with him and anglers over his videos. Least whilst he's making videos all the sheep follow him to his pegs it leaves quiet place where others can go enjoy fishing away from his followers
