Haha Nige there where trying to sort that one out 33 years ago when I started fishing, people sorting that one could be dead by now lol. There's something going on, down at the first real bend on the opposite bank, access has been made to the river and a platform built. Could be the proposed site I assume. And on the subject of swim building and accessing the weir pool. We may no longer be able to go down next to the old mill, but there's no reason why we can't fight our way back along the bank to it from a little further downstream, on the other side of the barbed wire fence. We might get away without someone having to wade to find swims, I know a lot of the pegs of old and I'm sure jb remembers them pretty well too. Looking forward to getting stuck in, it's a lovely length of the nidd! Eddie. Ps. Will bring a strimmer again and a few other bits and pieces. Eddie When I was down last year had a chat with the owners of the Mill and they were saying they would be very grateful if we could not go down by the side of the mill to the weir peg. The access used to be through the gate and then go back on yourself but that is where the barbed wire is. I think it would be good PR if we re-established that access , hence me asking if anyone had any barbed wire cutters. Dave

I can probably put my hands on some bolt cutters which should handle barbed wire easily. cheers Andy

Nige I think your namesake is planning to strim a path from the Nidd Mouth to Ramsgill if he can convince Claire to follow him in a car with sandwiches , hay fever tablets and and Elastoplast I think the rest of us are going to focus on the Colditz Avenue and maybe continue along to the end of the first field for the time being. I'm going to call in and see the Mill owner who I've spoken to several times before and see if we are okay to take Brents truck and maybe a couple more cars down with any gear in . Save us all carting it the few hundred yards from the parking area. On the day I'm going to get there about 8am so hopefully that will suit others but if not theres no pressure ...... just get there when it suits All the best Dave R

Who needs a strimmer. Currently experimenting with a wheelbarrow with scythes through the wheel. Just need someone sitting in it with a flamethrower now.

I am thinking about fishing the Nidd having never fished It before but I am a little confused by the information available regarding the stretches, Is Hammerton railway bottom Skip bridge?. On the matches booked It mentions Hammerton railway bottom pegs 1 to 30 I am presuming this Is the pegs upstream from skip bridge left bank looking downstream are there actual numbered pegs? and If so Is peg one at the upstream end.
Thanks In advance Steve.

Thanks In advance Steve. Steve , As you go over the stile and turn left that is what I call Skip Bridge , it has been referred to on here as the horse field which is quite appropriate. On the website map it is referred to as the railway field. This goes up to the Railway Bridge. On the other side of the railway bridge is what I have always called Railway Bottom and this is pegged out. I think peg 30"is next to the railway bridge and peg 1 is upstream to where our work party started. The length where our work party started is Hammerton Mill bottom and if you walk a couple of miles upstream you will arrive at Hammerton Mill Top . . Where we are doing the work party a week on Saturday So there you have it . . . . What's the question again

Hi
To clarify the situation this how I read the R. Nidd at Hammerton;
Starts at the cricket field above the weir, this is Hammerton Mill Top down towards Horseshoe Bend and Kissing Gate this is Hammerton Mill Bottom. Where the work party was working is Hammerton Railway Top and downstream of the work party is Hammerton Railway Bottom down to the railway bridge. From the railway bridge down to Skip Bridge is Skip Bridge Above and obviously from Skip Bridge down to Barnes Farm on right bank now is Skip Bridge Below.
Regards Graham

that sounds good to me Graham, In my younger days I lived at Green Hammerton. as I remember the stretch from tha railway bridge to tha skipbridge layby used to be Wetherby don't know when Leeds required it may be you have a date for me it would be nice to know. don't know hoe it came about but I remember tha layby bridge been tha main road to York bloody murder on that bridge when lorry's where passing me on my moped. when tha new bridge was built tha name skip-bridge came about because people use to skip/bypass tha layby bridge to get to York, that's why it was called skipbridge. so I have always called this area form layby bridge to tha farm as skipbridge stretch and I`m right in saying long time Leeds members will agree this was around 33 years ago. there you go guys a bit of knowledge for ya !!! What would a golfer know about fishing! How did the round go today Dave, got you down as about an 18 handicapper? I have got my version of the lengths names at hammerton, but I think I won't post them, it doesn't really matter, the river will be the same whatever we call it!

Eddie Well it was enjoyable Eddie , but I didn't play to my 18 handicap. My ball seemed to be attracted to streams surrounded by Himalayan Balsam and Giant Hogweed
