I posted this on the YF forum earlier this week concerning the Aire so thought it was relevant to add it here in case anyone's interested: Had an interesting experience tonight on the Lower Aire at Beal just below the weir that I didn't know whether to enjoy or feel sad about. I saw an otter for the first time in the wild I think it must have followed my lure in because as I lifted it out of the water the otter popped it's head up about 2 feet away. I completely froze and watched as it went under and poked it's head up again about 5 or 6 times, looking straight at me every time while preening it's head and whiskers. It then raised it's whole body to the surface and did a full roll on the top before disappearing at which point I decided that continuing would probably be pointless and packed up and went home (it was just starting to get dark) So yes, pleased I saw it but at the same are disappointed about what's probably going to happen to the stocks in an area which is local to me and a stretch I enjoy fishing Just thought I'd share it with you as in my mind at least I've got an 'out' for not catching all afternoon Cheers. The link in the above post made my anti virus kick in be warned! Many thanks for the news Jason, i get what you say,a bitter sweet sighting, i aint seen an otter yet myself and having seen the pics of late, the wastefull way they feed, ie not eating the whole fish, it don't look good for the fish stocks does it? I'll still be a regular visitor down at thwaites, even though i wont be angling, so i'll let you know if i see owt further up-stream from your sighting, i hope not to be honest, the stretch down there between the two wiers isn't that big, so a predator of that nature would cause devastation in no time at all. Daz. Cheers Daz. The link should be ok, it's just a link to the actual thread in www.yorkshirefishing.net and I've never had a problem with that site. One thing that suprised me was how relaxed it was and didn't just disappear when it saw me, I thought they were supposed to dislike activity and stay away from humans Not this one, it wasn't bothered by me at all. Made me wonder if it was one of the released ones that was used to human contact? Anyway, time will tell what effect this has on the stocks.

Yeh that is a big problem like Daz and does sicken you in the end happens on my local stretch of the Tees all the time just one stretch of it is particularly bad for it the amount of leaves and twigs that get washed through makes it a losing battle really You can get Avon's for around 40 quid that are good and will also come with a quiver top as well normally with 3 tips to go with the quiver effectively giving you two rods for the price of one, i have a few Avon rods but the one i use most is the Ron Thompson Avon/quiver which cost me 47 quid and it has been a brilliant rod, but if you want a out and out bargain just to try the Avon out Go outdoors are selling a Ron Thompson Barbel rod at the moment for £9.99 I'm getting one to use as a spare but sadly my local branch are out of stock at the moment..typical !! hope this helps a little Daz

No worrys Daz and i would imagine your Nash will be around about a 1lb test curve at a guess but sometime TC doesnt come into it, it can also depend on the action of the rod as well mate, if you really wanna know just send Nash a msg and they should be able to tell you ;-)
